Bulk Rate Stamps Explained
"Bulk stamps" can mean a large retail package, while "bulk rate" usually refers to commercial mailing rules. They are not the same purchase or mailing process.
Two Different Meanings
| Phrase | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Buying stamps in bulk | Purchasing a large quantity such as a roll or several books |
| Commercial or bulk mailing | Preparing an eligible mailing under specific sorting, documentation, entry, and payment rules |
What Commercial Mailing Can Require
Eligibility depends on the mail class, minimum quantity, address quality, piece design, preparation, documentation, permits or accounts, and where the mailing is entered. Simply placing ordinary stamps on many envelopes does not automatically earn a commercial price.
Choose the Practical Route
For a modest card or letter list, ordinary stamps may be simpler. For repeat or high-volume campaigns, compare preparation labor, software, address processing, permits, and postal savings. Test the complete piece and obtain current requirements before printing the batch.
After deciding whether a mailing qualifies for commercial rates or needs ordinary stamps, compare the current postage stamp options by package quantity.
Sources and Scope
Retail quantity and commercial-mail eligibility are different concepts. Check the current program standards before preparing a mailing.
